Pump soft starters are generally divided into automatic or non-automatic. The automatic soft starter has a built-in water pump controller that automatically starts the water pump at a fixed water level. When the water reaches a certain level, the pump will shut itself off.
Soft starters are used to reduce inrush current and limit torque, which is useful if you want to protect your pump, extend the life of the pump, and reduce heating of pumps that start and stop frequently. Therefore, the soft starter provides gentle acceleration up to full speed and is only used at start-up. Soft stopping by slowly reducing the current is also an effective way to prevent water hammer, which can cause pipe wear.
Automatic pump soft starters are used in a wide range of water pump applications including submersible pumps, sewage pumps, vertical multistage pumps, marine pumps and borehole pumps.
